Internship Class Outcomes
Introduction
I attend classes at Moraine Park Technical College (MPTC) in West Bend, and am due to graduate in Winter of 2009 after an internship. I look forward to learning more about Web Design in the meantime!
Core Abilities
These are the Core Abilities focused on by MPTC, along with my reflections on each. Please see my Core Abilities Survey Page to review my answers.
- Communicate Clearly - I have always held respect for other people by using biased free language, free of obscenities while in a professional capacity. I use effective listening skills, and I pride myself on correct grammar, spelling, and puncutation at all times. These are simply common sense for me and these classes have only given me more opportunities to use them.
- Work Cooperatively - Working in a team has not always been my strong suite. While I have always respected other coworker's differences and diversities, I am better at working alone. In a team setting, I can complete my assigned tasks within the time limits. I am able to use collaborative strategies and gain coworker's opinions and help, as well as exchange infomation, ideas and opinions. I have gotten better in this capacity since starting classes here, simply because it has taught me what is expected of me better.
- Act Responsibly - Throughout my school life, I have worked hard to complete my assigned tasks according to prescribed deadlines and criteria. If I did not understand a part of my homework, I have sought out answers from both teachers and fellow students. I have always adhered to established attendance criteria, and on the very few days I could not make a class, I have always called or spoken with the teacher before the time of the class. My college life at MPTC has not changed that.
- Value Self Positively - My hygiene and appearance are always well groomed when in either an educational or a professional capacity. I understand that my appearance has an effect on how clients, teachers and other students view me and my abilities. I do still have a harder time identifying my personal strengths, but I've always been good at identifying areas for improvement. While I still believe I have a lower self-esteem than most, I think these classes and this program has increased my pride in myself and my abilities. I feel I can now do something that I enjoy, and do it well enough to gain a job doing it.
- Think Critically and Creatively - I believe I could use more work on gaining a global perspective, as I tend to work on something so single-mindedly that I don't think of the entire project until it's nearly done. I do very well at knowing fact from opinion in both voice inflection and the written word. I like to gain information from a variety of sources, including books, Online, opinions and interviews, as well as other sources. Another thing I could work on in this area includes decision-making strategies, as I sometimes waiver between options instead of deciding quickly and concisely. I believe the classes I have taken in this program have helped increase my problem-solving skills, as I've gotten used to trying one thing after another to make the websites I have worked on look the right way in different browsers.
- Work Productively - Within my school experiences, I have worked to complete assigned tasks according to established criteria, as this is where grades are made and classes passed. I think that my classes here at MPTC are the first times I've had to evaluate other people's work using established criteria and grading sheets, so I believe I'm better at this now than when I started.
- Learn Effectively - I believe I'm good at using various resources to meet my learning needs, including the Internet, books, and class books, as well as other people including teachers and students. I can organize information to assist my learning, as is proven by my folder and notebooks of information kept through all my classes here at MPTC. I can produce examples of my learning here on this website as is proven by the Portfolio page on this website.
